Mannum Bowling Club

Kia Marina Men’s Invitation Fours

Mannum Bowling club hosted the Kia Marina Men’s Invitation Fours on Saturday 2nd May. There was a full complement of twenty-four teams from eighteen different clubs vying for the $1000 prize money. The greens were in excellent condition and the weather was perfect for bowls for the first two games but conditions became a little windy during the final game. This only made the bowlers concentrate more on the game as they tried for the win.

Three games were played during the day. The first was over 13 ends and the two others played after lunch were 12 end games. With two games completed there were only four three game winners. At the end of the day the tally sheets were done and we had three three game winners and one with two wins and a draw to share in the prizes.

Our President Peter Wegener presented the trophies to the winning teams.

The Murray Bridge team of Frank Nagy, Tony Gill, Jim Brandle and Chester Moore took out first prize with 85 points and +19 shots. Second were Ascot Park: Paul Herreen, Adrian Bear, Lynton Jones and Scott Benier with 84 points and +23 shots. Third place went to Payneham: Leigh Adams, Ben McDonnell, Gary Miles and Gabe Nadechia with 83 points and +16 shots. Fourth prize went to Tailem Bend: David Hoare, Brian Leckie, Kim Tomkinson and Michael Thorne with 78 points and +31 shots.

There was a lot of interest in the raffle for the day. Jim Brandle (Murray Bridge) won the Webber Baby Q donated by Mannum Hardware, Graham Leathers (Mannum) took home the $60 beer voucher donated by the Pretoria Hotel and Wayne Zilm (Lobethal) won the meat and vegetable trays donated by IGA Fresh.

It was certainly a great day for the bowlers and the Mannum Bowling Club and they left very happy with the day’s events following the presentations.
